Katherine “Kat” Huerta is a 20 year old sophomore at Texas State University and is currently an Electronic Media major.

Huerta was born in Lexington, Nebraska, but her and her family moved to Nahuatzen, Michoacán, Mexico, shortly after. Soon after moving to Mexico, her and her family moved back to the United States into Seguin, Texas. Huerta started her journey in Texas as a kindergartner. When she reached her sophomore year of high school, she joined the broadcasting staff. During her first year in the organization, she was just a staff member, but worked her way up to producer her senior year. She originally wanted to go to school for computer science, but the broadcasting staff sparked her interest in the editing process of film.

Huerta chose Texas State because she heard they had a great school of mass communication. She started off as a journalism major at Texas State, but soon realized she didn’t like writing as much. She then switched to electronic media because of her interest in film.

During her time at Texas State, Huerta has joined the Learning Community, where she has had the opportunity of shadowing DJ Val, from 102.3 The Beat, in Austin, Texas. Huerta is now an existing member on the news staff at KTSW.
